Manengouba High School in Nkongsamba hosted a meetup dedicated to raising awareness about disinformation and online hate speech on Saturday, March 1st. Organized by Lisa Mbiybe, a representative of the Facthunter association, this event provided an opportunity to discuss the dangers of spreading false information and the impact of hate speech on social media.
Understanding and Combating Disinformation
During the event, students exchanged views on the consequences of disinformation, which is often amplified by social media and digital platforms. The emphasis was placed on the importance of verifying sources, cross-checking information, and avoiding the sharing of content without ensuring its accuracy.

Hate Speech: A Sometimes Unconscious Threat
Another key topic of the meetup was hate speech. Lisa Mbiybe and Tchoffo Vera, a human rights activist and community worker, explained how this phenomenon can sometimes manifest without people realizing it. The discussions helped students learn how to identify and counter these behaviors, promoting a climate of respect and tolerance online.

A Valuable Exchange with Young People
For about thirty minutes, the speakers educated students on these critical issues. This discussion not only strengthened their critical thinking regarding the information they consume but also encouraged them to adopt a responsible attitude online.
This meetup aligns with Facthunter’s mission to promote a safer and more responsible internet. More initiatives like this are planned to continue educating young people on best digital practices.
And you, are you vigilant against disinformation and hate speech online ?
